Opening the back door of his car, Jan van der Roost looks in and unlatches the carseat. A sleeping Sebastian is covered from head to toe save his eyes and nose.
Jan picks up the carseat and a small bag from the floorboard, closing the door behind him. He walks from the parking lot towards the door of Bloomfield Pediatric Care. The door opens as another parent walks out, holding an infant on their hip. She smiles at Jan, holding the door open for him.
Jan steps in and walks up to the desk, still holding both the carseat and the small bag in his hands, where a receptionist waits for him.
The receptionist stands and looks into the carseat as Sebastian remains asleep.
Jan nods.
Jan walks over to the sitting area where other parents, mostly mothers, sit with their children. He slowly unwraps Sebastian and scoops him into his arms. The other parents watching Jan as he slides his finger along Sebastian’s hand. Sebastian slowly grabs his finger as he sleeps, bringing a slight smile to Jan.
A double chime is heard on the phone as a text comes in.
A picture message shows a smiling yet sweaty Sasha van der Roost at Squires Castleton with Doug Castle in the background. The caption reads:
Jan smirks and looks at his phone.
Tapping the camera, he holds up the phone to show his face and a sleeping Sebastian nestled into his arm.
Jan looks down at Sebastian then back at his phone.
Jan looks over at one of the parents who glares at him.
Jan looks back at the camera, speaking in a softer voice
He slowly nods.
Jan waves towards the voice of screen then looks back at the camera.
Jan places Sebastian back in the carseat and turns off his phone.
Papa’s gotchu.

Thank you.

Checking in?
Yes.
Name?
van der Roost.
Yes.
Name?
van der Roost.
The receptionist stands and looks into the carseat as Sebastian remains asleep.
So this is the little miracle, Sebastian?
Jan nods.
He had all of us worried here. Sasha went through so much.
Not out of the woods yet, but that is why we are here.
I’ll tell Dr. Kelley you’re here.
Thanks.

Smart boy.

It’s your Momma.

“He’s a lot like you are. Tough and no-nonsense. But you are much nicer, LOL! Love you. See you at home.”
Jan smirks and looks at his phone.
Gonna make you sweat, indeed. I told you so, Sasha. There will not be any dancing with Castle today.

Here at the Doctor’s office for a checkup for Sebastian. Born way too early, he has his father’s determination and his mother’s stubbornness, but he is still a little under-developed. Takes time and patience to let his mental and physical skills get in tuned with the other. Sasha is at Squires Castleton doing the same thing, getting herself back into wrestling shape after the birth of our little boy. It is a long hard road but something she will do as well, through determination, grit, and just plain spite.
Jan looks down at Sebastian then back at his phone.
And Papa Jan is still holding strong. With everything that has been going on, it was tough to stay focused long enough to make things work other places. But the opportunity to go for the Pollo Estrel Medal was something I could not pass up. To be very honest, I do not know how many more opportunities there will be for the Rooster to go for the gold, so I will not waste this opportunity.
Jan looks over at one of the parents who glares at him.
Sorry.

Just got that ‘look’ from someone who does not understand how much this means to me. Winnipeg is the start of the last run. I do not know how long this run will last but when it is time, I will not look back and say “what if” but “what a run it has been.” And it starts with Blaise Fader, someone I have not had the pleasure of being in the ring with, but someone I definitely admire. She does what every young talent should strive for: she maximizes her opportunities and her skills and leaves nothing behind… and does it with something dear to me… Respect
He slowly nods.
Ms. Fader, it will be an honor to show everyone here in Pollomania and around the world just how two respectful wrestlers can work. It may be just ten minutes max, but the fans will relish every second.. As will I...
Sebastian van der Roost?
Sebastian van der Roost?
Jan waves towards the voice of screen then looks back at the camera.
And That’s the Way It Is…
Jan places Sebastian back in the carseat and turns off his phone.
