The latest video uploaded to the Pollomania website opens outside of the Pollo Hall, the Texas building which saw the company put on their first few shows. The camera lingers on the building for a moment, giving a good account of the shabby, run-down state it is in, before a hint of movement draws viewers' eyes down from the imposing structure to the two comparatively small figures standing in its shadow. Initially obscured by the Hall's massive porch, the duo soon step out into the dazzling desert sunlight, their faces periodically distorted by undulating waves of heat as they walk up to the camera. As they approach, the smaller of the two – a jovial-looking twentysomething not much taller than five-foot-five – begins to speak:
'Pollo Hall. About a year ago, this very building was the stage of one of the most intense battles the wrestling world has ever seen. Two men went at it, no holds barred, in a battle of good versus evil, honor versus dishonor, light versus dark. Others got caught up in the vortex of that rivalry. Friends. Family members. Loved ones. But there was no stopping the hurricane. The only way for the destruction to end was for one of the parties to defeat the other.
And eventually, one did.
Except...'
The speaker leans in closer to the camera, giving viewers a glimpse at pleasant, rounded features, not altogether favored by a serious, scowling expression.
'...except here we are, a full year later, and people are still getting caught up in our hurricane.'
The man takes one step forward.
'Eli...I'm starting to think we're destined to keep running into each other, for ever and ever, until the end of time. Because here we are, Walt and me, getting pumped for our return to the place we used to call home...getting pumped to see the fans, the old crew, the familiar faces backstage...
...and who's the first person we run into?
The most familiar face of them all.
You.'
The man smirks.
'You know, Eli...I almost showed up here under the mask. I'm not even kidding. I almost did it, just to show you that no matter how much you try to convince yourself, you didn't kill El Vainillo. You couldn't kill El Vainillo. I killed El Vainillo. And I can bring him back whenever I very well please!'
A note of defiance creeps into the speaker's tone, which he quashes with some difficulty.
'In the end, though...I didn't. First of all, because it would be disrespectful to the people of Mexico to show up on their national holiday pretending to be one of them; but secondly, and most importantly...
...because it isn't about us this time.'
The man nods slightly.
'That's right, Eli. It's not about us. Sure, I may be across the ring from two of your guys, and you may be right there at ringside reminding me that you exist, but this iis no longer about you and me. Heck, you don't even wrestle anymore! No, Eli - this is about AJ Knight, Ben Chrenshaw, and the Everyday Heroes. This is about a grizzled veteran, a journeyman, and two of the most promising rookies in independent wrestling today giving the people what they want - a match to remember. A match worthy of an anniversary show. A match worth the money they paid to come down to this very building, on Mexican Independence Day, and see some of their favorite superstars get back in the ring one last time, for old times' sake!
So Eli...boys...let's give them what they deserve, hey?'
The youngster clenches his fist, his eyes twinkling and a grin dawning on his lips as he gestures towards his tag team partner.
'Eli...believe it or not, we've changed. Walt and I both. We've been through a lot this past year, and it's shaped us. We're not the same people you faced all those months ago. We've forgiven, forgotten, and moved on. From our end, there is no more animosity. Bygones are bygones. And when we get into that ring on Tuesday, all we'll be concerned about is putting on a clinic against two dudes who can hang with us and help create something great. There'll be no beef. No grudges. No hate. Just good vibes, better wrestling, and a proper celebration.'
But Eli...the question is...'
The man leans in further than ever before, his face showing in extreme close-up as he concludes:
'...can the same be said about you?'
On that question, the video ends.
