“Hey Brute, how come we have to still keep your speaking a secret,” Holly suddenly asked me this morning while we were enjoying breakfast in Tiger and Charlotte’s Dallas apartment, “I mean, what’s the big deal? Charlotte and Eli both know now."
There’s a certain sense of glee in her voice when she says her brother’s real name. For months he would have tried to carve out her heart with a spoon if she as much as uttered it but since his return from his injury their relationship has improved with his growing stability of mind. I’m happy for them both; they had been close as children but grew apart as they grew. A united household will help the Embassy fulfill our goals but unlike Holly I’m not sure that her brother is as well as he seems; he can’t hide it from me, I can still see the storm clouds in his eyes.
I took another sip of my tea before I answered her. It was a valid question of course; I’ve thought more than once about it myself.
“It’s all about the element of surprise, young one,” I told her, “While I’m certain that no one could possible overlook someone of my physical status, people still end up underestimating me. The very idea sounds insane of course, but even though I’ve shown people through the written word how articulate I really am, people still look down on me as someone less intelligent than them.”
“Why, ‘cause they think someone else is writing them for you?”
“Precisely! That fool, Mr. Crazy, when he hurled insults of being mentally disabled at me earlier this year was only voicing what so many around here think. I’m viewed by the masses as being little more than a slightly more competent version of Hodor from ‘Game of Thrones’ or nothing more than a poor imitation of Groot from the comic books.”
Not surprisingly, Holly starts giggling out of control. She will binge watch episodes of ‘Game of Thrones’ if left unchecked and laughs hysterically whenever there’s a scene of a sexual nature shown on the screen. After a few moments though, she manages to regain her composure.
“That would make them all pretty stupid then,” she finally says, “They would probably poop themselves if they knew the truth.”
“Exactly,” I proclaim, while she might be a bit crass at times, there is no doubt that she’s far more intelligent than most people give her credit for as well, “When I finally reveal to the world my secret, I want it to be at the most ideal of moments. I want to be able to bask in their shock and disbelief and laugh as they realize how stupid they all truly are.
“Until then, though, my secret still works in our advantage. Everyone here, including yourself of course, is accustomed to my way of speaking in public. Few people realize the secret meaning in how I articulate every letter in the phrase “I am Brute”. This will allow me to give you directions in our match for the Twin Eggs Championship next week, that none of our opponents will be able to decipher., which will give us the edge that we need to defeat our foes.”
“And more importantly,” Charlotte says as she walks out of her room, putting on a pair of ear rings, “that will allow you two to make sure that Jason Orion is weaken when he puts his El Vainillo mask on later that evening when he defends the Supremo Championship against your brother.”
She grabs a piece of toast off the table but Holly slaps her hand and gives her an indignant look.
“Hey, wait a minute here. Are you saying that you don’t want Brute and I to win the Twin Egg Championship just so Eli can get his title back?”
I suppress a grin as Charlotte rolls her eyes.
“Of course I want you to win the titles, Sweetie. This is a triple threat match and you know what that means.”
Holly’s eyes light up with realization.
“No disqualification and no count out!”
Charlotte smiles and gives her sister-in-law a kiss on the top of the head.
“You got it. So you and I are going to go into Minneapolis a few days early so we can go to the Mall of America and pick up a few things.”
I smile as the two women chatter away. Our opponents and the Pollomaniacs won’t know what hit them.
