'You ready?'
'Ready.'
Everything is in place: Lyndsey, her tablet, and my tag team partner. The only difference is, this time he's not wearing a mask or pretending to be someone else. And I won't have to do it all myself.
'Fights between heroes are one of the great staples of fantasy fiction. Everyone's seen them. Everyone's speculated on them. Who would win? How would each fighter use their skills? How matched would their power levels be?
Over the years, some of those questions got answered, either in comic books, cartoons, or even just fan sites on the Internet. But for every fight that gets settled, another comes up to be speculated about. Such as...Constellation Owlsome versus Team HERO.'
I grin down at Jason, who understands the message.
'On March 23, two teams are looking to join Starship Insanity at the top of the Pollomania Tag Grand Prix table...and two others are looking to stop them. Marksman, Sentinel, Wildstar, you guys have nothing to lose from trying to beat us and win your first two points in this cup. On Wednesday, the burden's on us. Because we're the ones with the responsibility. We're the ones who have to keep up the pace. We're the ones who have to give the fans what they want. And trust us...we will.'
Jay pauses, and I step forward once again.
'That's right, HEROes. We may not have anything against you – in fact we commend your efforts for the cause of good – but that does not mean we're letting our guards down. There's too much riding on this match. Too much at stake. And if there's one thing we know how to deal with, it's stakes.'
Jay takes over again.
'Team HERO, on Wednesday, in Philadelphia, Constellation Owlsome are making their claim for a shot at the Pollomania Twin Egg Championships. You can try to stop us, but make no mistake: we sell defeat very, very hard. So bring your best, Wildstar, Marksman, Sentinel. Bring your best and go for your goal. But be warned: so will we.'
Jay looks over at me, and I realize he wants me to have the last word. I give a small nod to thank him, then step forward again:
'HEROes, on March 23, at If You Want Fries You Got 'Em...it's hero versus hero for the Pollomania Tag Grand Prix. Let's make it good. Let's make the fans wonder. Let's give them something to remember.'
I can feel myself grinning as I conclude:
'Team HERO, on Wednesday, let's make the fans' nights...
...Owlsome.'
With that, I step back once again, as Lyndsey turns off the camera. Then, there are hugs all around, until my stomach starts to rumble.
'I'm hungry, guys. Let's go have some food.'
Jay nods. 'All right. What do you want?'
It doesn't take more than a moment before the answer comes to me.
'The show's in Philadelphia, right?' I grin. 'Well...let's go have some cheese steak.'
