Saturday Afternoon - 4:39 PM - Foote - van der Roost Residence, Suburban Detroit
Under the soft lights in the nursery, Jan van der Roost sits in a rocking chair, his son Sebastian cradled in his arm. Sebastian’s hand cups against the bottle being fed to him by ‘Papa Jan’. Jan looks down at Sebastian as a slight rain begins to fall, the drops tapping against the roof and the window pane.
This has been a very good year for us… and a very sad year for us as well. Many in our wrestling family have brought into this world more children for our family to love, including you, Mijn Kleine, and unfortunately our family has lost as well, most recently John Pariah and Zoe Chaos.
Sebastian’s eyes start to lower as his bottle nears empty.
I did not know John as well as I wish I had, more than just who he was and what he did for the business. But, I did consider Zoe a friend. Even when Dexter and I were at the heart of our battles across five locations, Zoe and I always managed to stay cordial. I know she consider her loyalty and respect as a weakness, whereas I see them as strengths, but I always felt that in different circumstances, we could have been allies, and not just on opposite sides of what ended up being just a pointless feud. But such is the way of the business. We live, we love. We win, we lose.
A soft sigh is felt as Jan takes the empty bottle from Sebastian, setting it on the table beside of the rocking chair. He carefully puts his son over his shoulder and taps his back gently.
So, the Bucking Finale will be held in Zoe’s honor, and PWX will be holding a memorial ‘In His Name’ card for Pariah later this month that I will be involved in as well. But first…
A burp is heard as Jan gives a slight smile.
No wasted effort. Reminds me of Niko a year ago.
Jan slowly rocks in the chair as he cradles Sebastian against his neck.
First, it’s the Bucking Finale in Toronto. It’s Edwards, Faders, Matthews, Hammerstein, Areano, ... and van der Roost. A Ladder match for the Pollo Estrel Medal. A chance at glory and a chance to take one of the biggest prizes in the Pollo World. For me, it is a chance to show everyone that the old man has one more run. And if it means showing five others just how to use a ladder as a partner, and not just as a weapon. And then the old man will show everyone- James, Blaise, Anna, Jacob, Talia, Sasha, Doug, Aria, Alan, Leonard, All of our Knights…. And even Dexter….. just what twenty three years of experience can do.
Jan’s voice raises slightly but then he turns his head sideways to see Sebastian sleeping soundly against his neck and shoulder. Jan continues in a slightly softer tone.
As much as we want to grieve for our fallen family members, all of us still have a job to do and that is exactly what I plan to do - and My job is to take home the Pollo Estrel Medal. The fans in Toronto want to see it... The fans watching want to see it… and John and Zoe would want it this way as well.
Jan leans his head against the back of the chair as he continues to rock slowly.
I regret not having the chance to face John or Zoe in the ring, but in Toronto, I will Honor their memories and show Respect to their legacies by leaving everything out there in the ring. Win or Lose, it will be the Bucking Finale that everyone will remember for a long time.
Jan slowly closes his eyes and softly sings while rocking Sebastian as he sleeps.
It's the circle of life...
And it moves us all...
Through despair and hope..
Through faith and love…
Till we find our place...
On the path unwinding...
In the circle...
The circle... of life...
And it moves us all...
Through despair and hope..
Through faith and love…
Till we find our place...
On the path unwinding...
In the circle...
The circle... of life...
Jan kisses the side of Sebastian’s head then looks over to see Sasha and Brittany standing in the doorway. Sasha blows her husband a kiss as she turns the light off, ushering Brit down the hallway, leaving Jan and Sebastian in the shadowy solitude of the rainy Saturday afternoon.
