BIOGRAPHY / BACKGROUND -
“Born in Canada, raised in Mexico and trained in Japan.” That’s how Eli used to describe himself. The truth about his background is more complicated and maybe he author of this will eventaually get around to telling more of it some day.
Eli left home at the age of 17 to pursue a career as a professional wrestler in Japan after receiving some training in Mexico. He has described it as one of the most intense, but fulfilling times of his life. He quickly found success and acceptance there and became Tiger Mask Red, a personna handed down to him by his menton Keiji Morimoto. Perhaps he would have stayed there but an injury left him on the shelf for months and he soon fell victim to mental illness that he had struggled with for most of his life.
Returning to North America, he caused havoc in the original Pollomania as El Tigre de Jengibre, and later as Tiger Mask Red once more, becoming the most successful wrestler in the brief history of the original Pollomania Lucha Lubre, while finding further acclaim in other promotions as well. It would be during this time that he would fight to get mental healthy and married his childhood sweetheart. Many would consider this to be the most successful period of his career, but this too wouldn’t last.
On the last show of the original Pollomania in June of 2016, Eli would suffer a career threatening injury that would leave him on the shelf for nearly a year. It was during his period he learned he had fathered a son in Japan with his ex-girlfriend, and at the same time was trying to build a business with his wife which would become known as Buck U Productions. He would return to wrestling, this time a manager, in an effort to raise the funds to bring home the former and build up the later. He would form the infamous “Red Army” during this time and became one of the most hated men in Lions Road Wrestling. The stress though would lead to his second major struggle with mental illness and a growing dependency on alcohol and painkillers, which destroyed many of his relationships and nearly ended his marriage. When his wife left him, it was the wake up call he needed and he worked hard to get sober and win her back.
He was cleared to return to the ring in the middle of 2017 and slowly began to put his wrestling career back on track as well, often wrestling using his real name, while wrestling as Tiger Mask Red in other markets that were willing to pay more for the masked madman. Even though, Eli would attempt to put the mask aside for good, believing it was actually holding his career back, and for the first time in his career found incredible success using his own name.
When Lions Road closed, Buck U Productions bought it and Eli was promoted as the company president, a position he was hesitant to accept and eventually regretted taking. Buck U would quickly sour on the promotion and would sell the assets to MAXIMUM to regain their investment. Once again Eli found himself in an office job he despised, and with someone impersonating his former masked persona as Tiger Mask Undead, Eli found himself compelled not only to return to a Pollomania ring for the first time in three years, but to take back the mask that was stolen from him and destroy it once and for all!
